Due to the success of the walking weekend meet up I organised in 2016, I’ve decided to run it again. Travelling by ferry from Ardrossan to Campbeltown on the evening of 17/5 ( beautiful scenery whilst at sea) the ferry leaves Ardrossan ferry terminal at 1840 arriving at Campbeltown circa 2120 where I will arrange transport for the half hour drive to the beautiful village of Carradale to your choices of accommodation. The car will take 3 passengers comfortably but please bring only a cabin sized case for ease of boot space in the car. The return journey from Campbeltown to Ardrossan is on Sunday 20/5 at 1700 where return transport to campbeltown will be arranged for you.
Since it’s a late arrival in the village, you will be taken to your accommodation. After a slow start on the morning of 18/5 we will head off for a walk from the village hall down to picturesque Carradale Bay and hopefully out along Carradale
Point. At low tide it is possible to witness fabulous views across Kilbrannan Sound to Arran and across to the village of Torrisdale on the peninsula. Lunch can be arranged in the local Network Bistro which provides sandwiches, baked potatoes, mac and cheese etc together with scones and cakes. Evening dinner will be in the Glen. Sr and Restaurant which for a reasonable price boasts the usual favourites and also seafood and has a daily special board. ( I’ve yet to be disappointed) . On Saturday 19th we will head down to Campbeltown and hopefully venture out to Davaar Island ( tide dependant) or attempt part of the Kintyre Way . There are plenty of reasonably priced eateries in Campbeltown and we perhaps could have dinner in the Royal Hotel’s reasonably priced restaurant ( Mac and cheese to die for ) Sunday 20/5 will begin with Sunday worship in the local Presbyterian Church at 10am then we shall perhaps have some sustenance at the Network Bistro before spending a couple of hours climbing Deer Hill where you will witness the most beautiful scenery and panoramic view.
Costs...the ferry return is approximately £15.30 for four passengers. A main course meal on board and soft drink/ tea/ coffee will be in the region of £10.
The best prices I can find for accommodation are via Trip Advisor and I recommend :-
Ashbank Hotel ( approx £71 pppn)
Carradale Hotel ( approx £70 pppn)
Drumfearne Tearoom and B&B £85 pppn
Carradale’s (opening for 2018) firstname.lastname@example.org .....01583 431119 or 07968 477563
There’s also Lochpark B&B circa £70 pppn
It is your your responsibility to secure your own accommodation. If you wish to attend please secure your accommodation and add yourself to the attendee list. Please can you add a message stating your accomdation ( makes life easier for organising meeting for walks etc. )
****I will have to close meet up attendee numbers no later than 14 April *** this is because of work commitments so that I may secure Friday 18th May as a day off. Your cooperation with the closing date is much appreciated.
