This Meetup is a walk in the Southern part of the Derbyshire Dales, with a chance to meet some other CC members.
It’s a circular walk from Carsington Water, near Wirksworth, up to Harboro’ Rocks – a good viewpoint (on a fine day!) - and back via Brassington. It’s 6½ miles in total and with around 1150’ (348 m) of ascent; with breaks, it should take us about 3½ - 4 hrs.
The walk climbs steadily uphill soon after the start, and there are a couple of other steep pulls. Some of it is on rocky, uneven paths and there are stiles. So you’ll need walking boots or stout shoes, waterproofs and some warm clothing just in case, a packed lunch and water.
We’ll meet at 10.45 for an 11.00 start; the meeting place is the Sheepwash car park, at Carsington Water off the B5035 Middleton to Ashbourne Road, approx. postcode DE4 4DD. From the road it’s signed “Severn Trent Water – Carsington Water – Sheeepwash Car Park” - don’t be misled by signs to the other car parks! In particular avoid the main Severn Trent visitor centre car park which is nearby, down a turn marked Hulland Ward / Atlow / Carsington Water.
The car park is a one-way loop, drive around the parking bays until you find us congregating at a car with a big green thermos flask on top. It’s £3 for a day’s parking.
If you’d like to come, please hit the “Attend Meetup” button at the top of this page. If having signed up you later decide not to come, please “unattend” by pressing the button again – this saves us from waiting for people who aren’t actually coming. You’re welcome to request a mobile number so you can let us know if you’re delayed, but signals are patchy at the start!
Sorry, but no dogs please.
Look forward to seeing you on the 13th.
